It took us quite a long time but now we are proud to finally introduce our Econore Magazine!
We came up with the idea to make our own fanzine at the end of 2009. First we took inspiration from old punk and metal fanzines and started to think about some fundamental, conceptual issues. The biggest problem on that stage was how to design it? At this point it were only Jul and Ramco who both just had marginal experience in doing layouts. So who else was going to do that? We asked around and gladly found Foen to join us. He did not only an awesome work but enriched the whole concept by looking at it from another point of view.
Our goal still was to keep the attitude and style of those magazines we love: Xeroxed pages, collages, interviews, stories and the like. But we wanted it to be a step further. We wanted to distill the fine ingredients of our beloved fanzines and merge them to our very own blend – Econore Magazine. So we tried to figure out what elements were truly necessary, what could be left behind, what generally distinguishes a fanzine from a normal magazine and how far we could go without missing the topic.
There it was: Next problem – Talking about Topics! It is not like it was hard to find something you could write about, but rather to sort out the stuff that was not already discussed a thousand times or is simply undoable. We did not want to make a leaflet praising our own records. The goal was not to make a zine about Econore, but rather making it a part of the whole. But still the problem remained, because when you start your own zine it is hard to convince people to participate. Why should I give an interview for a magazine nobody knows and which even has nothing published yet and could turn out as total crap in the first issue? So you have to rely on people who really believe in you, who are convinced by the sole idea even when there is nothing to see. That makes this first issue so special and that is why we are very proud of it, because everyone who participated in it not only was kind enough to lend us their time but also believed in us and our ideas. Thank you very much! Without the help of those people we would still be no step further.
And now there it is: The first issue of Econore Magazine – and we like it. And we hope you are gonna like it as well. The few people who have seen it so far were all very surprised, pleased and keen what to expect in the future.
Of course we have a lot of ideas and already work hard on the next issue, but sometimes even we do not know where the journey goes. The big problem of publishing the first issue is solved now, yet there a lot of problems still to remain. For example think about financing the magazine – we are non-profit, so it’s not the sales but mainly our personal savings from where the money comes. But that’s not the point. We love what we do at Econore and hope that you share those feelings with us.
So now enjoy the first issue of Econore Magazine. And if you are convinced and think you got something to tell us or want to take part with your own poem / story / graphics / etc. feel free to post a comment or send us an eMail ( info@econore.com ).
